A man is before the courts today following an alleged burglary last night, say Counties Manukau Police.
Police say they were called to Walmsley Road in Mangere at around 9.40pm on July 15 to a report of burglary at a residential address.
Counties Manukau West Police area response manager, senior sergeant Steve Albrey, says an occupant encountered the offender in their kitchen.
“The man was allegedly eating food from the home while packing property into his backpack.
“When confronted by the occupant, a psychical altercation ensued.”
The offender then fled the scene, says Albrey.
Police units were dispatched, including the Eagle helicopter, which watched from above as the suspect ran through neighbouring properties and jumped fences.
“Eagle guided officers on the ground to the man’s location on Hall Avenue, where he was arrested,” Albrey says.
A 22-year-old man has been charged with two counts of burglary, resisting police, male assaults female, assaults child, indecent assault, and wilful damage, say police.
He is due to appear in the Manukau District Court today.
