Pukekohe’s Forest Mendoza may only be six, but his cooking skills are already taking social media by storm.
With the help of his father, acclaimed artist Christian Mendoza, and his big sister, eight-year-old Skye, Forest’s Facebook page, Forest Cooks, has cooked up more than 25,000 views and climbing.
While Forest Mendoza (aged six) lets his cooking do the talking, his dad says the family is proud of his hard work in the kitchen.
“It’s a wholesome project – Forest brings his high energy cooking style, while Skye helps host the show’s intros. The whole concept is a kid-led journey showing how fun, accessible and entertaining cooking can be for Kiwi kids.”
Forest has always wanted to be a chef. He began by helping his parents out with the family’s meals. His parents began recording his culinary adventures and posting them online.
“He’s always been curious in the kitchen, which we love because we’d rather have him in the kitchen than on a tablet, playing video games or watching TV.”
Moving forward, the family intends to help Forest increase his repertoire of recipes and build his cooking skills further.
The family is visiting various eateries in Franklin, adding weekly food reviews and interviews with chefs to Forest Cooks.
While its early days for this online enterprise and its young chef in training, there’s a good chance his catchphrase, ‘that looks yum!’, could catch on.
