Waikato and Counties Manukau Police have worked together to stop violent offenders in south Auckland, Inspector Scott Miller confirms.
“A swift response by police ensured four offenders were caught as they tried to flee across districts following a violent assault yesterday,” he says.
“Officers in Hamilton responded to a report of an aggravated burglary around 10pm where an address was forcefully entered and one person seriously assaulted before [the offenders] attempted to steal a motorcycle. They fled the scene in a vehicle and made their way to Auckland via the motorway.”
Waikato police liaised with colleagues from Counties Manukau to help stop the offenders.
“Highway patrol units kept their eyes peeled for the vehicle, sighting it on the Southern Motorway near Bombay and followed the car at a distance into Papakura,” Miller says.
“Due to the violent nature of the assault, multiple units were on standby and signalled for the vehicle to stop. It did not and continued to a vehicle stop that was set up ahead of [them].”
Four men – aged 34, 35, 45 and 64 – were then taken into custody. They are set to appear in the Manukau District Court today facing a charge of committing burglary with a weapon. The vehicle was impounded for six months for failing to stop for police.
