A reminder to branch out

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

  • By Shawna Coleman, general manager, PBA

We all get stuck in our routines a bit, don’t we? Same coffee order, same lunch spot, same Friday night dinner. Once you find somewhere you like, you kind of just keep going back there without thinking twice about it.

But moving offices recently has accidentally made us mix things up a bit food-wise, and it’s been a good reminder of how many great local food spots we actually have here in Pukekohe.

The other day we ended up trying Kings Garden Restaurant for the first time and it was so good. The dumplings were incredible. It’s now one of those places we’ll definitely go back to, and we probably never would’ve tried it if moving offices hadn’t made us branch out a little.

I think that’s the thing about living local. We have so many great cafés, takeaways, restaurants and bars around Pukekohe, but it’s easy to just stick with what you know.

Sometimes all it takes is parking on a different street, working from a different part of town, or someone saying, “you should try this place” and suddenly you’ve found a new favourite.

Not saying you need to abandon your regulars – absolutely not. But maybe this is your sign to try somewhere new every now and then. Add another local spot into the rotation. Try somewhere you’ve always walked past. Order something different. Take a recommendation from a friend.

Worst case, you go back to your usual next time.

Best case, you discover somewhere really good that’s been sitting here in Pukekohe the whole time!
