Death unexplained as body recovered at park

Counties Manukau Police say they’re continuing to make enquiries after a body was located in a pond at a park in south-east Auckland yesterday.

Emergency services were called at about 4.08pm yesterday after a member of the public found the body in a secluded area within the park, near Ōtara.

“Police Search and Rescue have recovered the body, and a post-mortem is expected to take place today,” police say. “At this stage, the death remains unexplained and formal identification procedures are under way.”

Rongomai Park, which is also close to Flat Bush, has reopened and the public may see an increased police presence while enquiries are ongoing, they say.
