More than $28k raised within a day for devastated family of Max Furse-Kee

More than $28,000 has so far been donated via an online fundraising page for the family of Pakūranga College pupil Max Furse-Kee, who tragically is among the six victims of the fatal Mount Maunganui landslide last Thursday.

Max was staying at the campground impacted by the landslide with fellow Pakūranga College pupil Sharon Maccanico. The couple were both 15 years old.

The Givealittle page was created by Joshua Holliday, who told the Times he’s been close friends with Max’s mother Hannah Furse and her family for more than 20 years.

“With their blessing I’ve created a Givealittle page following the devastating loss of their son, Max, in the Mount Maunganui landslides,” he says.

“The intention is simply to support the family with practical costs so they can focus on grieving and being together.”

Holliday writes on the Givealittle page that the Furse family is facing an “unimaginable loss”.

“There are no words that can truly ease the pain of losing a child. Max was deeply loved, and his loss has left a hole in the hearts of his family, friends, and everyone who knew him.

“In the midst of their grief, Hannah and her family are now also faced with practical pressures no family should have to carry at such a time.

“This Givealittle page has been created to wrap support around Hannah and her family, so they can focus on grieving, remembering Max, and being together, without the added stress of financial burden.

“Funds raised will help with immediate and ongoing costs, time away from work, and whatever support the family needs as they navigate the days and months ahead.
