American singer-songwriter Jelly Roll cancelled his Auckland concert less than an hour before it was due to start, citing illness.

The show, scheduled for 6pm tonight at Western Springs, was part of the Jelly Roll Down Under 2025 Tour and was set to feature supporting artists Shaboozey and Drew Baldridge.

In an Instagram post at about 5.30pm NZT, the artist told fans:

“Dear Auckland, I’ve done everything I can,” he wrote. “I just can’t shake it.
“It breaks my heart, I’ve probably missed three shows in the last decade.
“I pride myself on showing up no matter what.
“Just couldn’t do it this time. Please forgive me.”

Promoter Live Nation New Zealand confirmed just after 6pm that the concert would no longer go ahead.

“We regret to announce the Jelly Roll Down Under 2025 Tour tonight at The Outer Fields at Western Springs in Auckland will no longer go ahead due to illness,” the company said.

“All ticket holders will receive an automatic full refund. For any further refund enquiries please contact your point of purchase. We thank the fans for their understanding, and we look forward to welcoming Jelly Roll in future.”

Reaction online was mixed, with some fans supportive and others stung by the sudden cancellation.

One fan wrote, “Get better buddy and then keep on rolling, love your songs, dude.”

“Do we get our flights and accommodation refunded too?,” said another.

Others questioned the late timing of the announcement.

“6pm tonight when the show is kicking off at what? 8? Latest? I feel for people being sick but surely someone would have known earlier today.”

According to Live Nation, “Jelly Roll is a multi-award-winning, four-time Grammy nominated singer-songwriter from Nashville. Known for his genre-crossing style, he has earned critical acclaim from Rolling Stone, Billboard, NPR and more.

“With a string of chart-topping releases, Jelly Roll has achieved multiple #1s on country and rock radio and captivates audiences worldwide with his authentic storytelling and raw, emotional performances.”
