An allegation that an off-duty Police employee assaulted a man outside an Auckland bar has not been upheld following an investigation overseen by the Independent Police Conduct Authority (IPCA).
Police confirmed to the Franklin Times the incident occurred in March 2024 and involved a Police employee, not a sworn officer. The IPCA’s decision was released this week.
The Authority oversaw a police investigation into claims that the off-duty employee started a physical altercation with a man while they were drinking at a bar.
Both were removed by security staff, and once outside, the man alleged the employee tackled him to the ground before punching and kicking him several times, causing grazing and swelling to his face and body.
The employee denied the allegations and resigned during the investigation process for unrelated reasons.
Police found no evidence to support claims that the employee had initiated the fight and said there was insufficient evidence to lay any charges.
The Authority said it was satisfied with the police investigation and agreed with the outcome.
